Heroes have confidence and they accomplish big things. When Alyssa says her writing has improved, she is a hero. Kaylor doesn't hate math anymore and Derek likes to get up every morning and go to school. These are big things.
A child with autism can be a hero when we work with them as individuals to bring out their best academic performance. Others with developmental disorders can experience what it feels like to be a hero when they're encouraged instead of ignored, seen as valued instead of as problems.
Students at S.U.P.E.R. Learning Center accomplish academic, functional, social, emotional and behavioral achievements every day - and when they do, we celebrate their heroics. When Jessica says that she's learned skills she'll carry with her the rest of her life, that's to be celebrated the same as watching children as they make friends here.
Our cognitive development center and autism school serves as an Ohio Autism Scholarship Provider for children ages 6 through 21, and we specialize in educating children with cognitive learning delays. The medical and educational systems have labeled our students with a variety of diagnoses, the most common being pervasive development disorder-not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS), Asperger's syndrome, and autism. And others have been diagnosed as Down's syndrome, Fragile X syndrome, central auditory processing disorder (CAPD), dyslexia, attention deficit disorder (ADD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury, and a myriad of other diagnoses. But despite the diagnoses and the labels, Heroics Happen Here.
Learning starts in different ways for each child. S.U.P.E.R. helps students work at socialization, physical fitness, academics, and life skills. We witness heroics each day because each S.U.P.E.R. Learning Center student is accepted and understood. That builds confidence. That increases self-esteem. And so that brings out the heroic abilities already there. Heroics happen here because heroes need to feel like heroes.
